About Nanyang Polytechnic Voice Ensemble (NYPVE; Chinese: 南洋理工学院合唱团)
History
Formed in April 1995, the NYP Choir was led by Mr Toh Ban Sheng doing a mix of Spirituals, Madrigals and Asian compositions and is actively to this date, involved in many school programmes.
It is in 1998 that the NYP Choir was renamed as the NYP Voice Ensemble. Since then, the NYPVE represents the melody of the campus, with enticing tunes and delirious rhythms set to songs which would be defined as the Nanyang Sound.
The NYPVE is a 30-strong SATB choir and has a wide repertoire, ranging from Spiritual, Madrigals and Folk Songs to Jazz and Classical pieces to Modern Asian compositions.
The NYPVE Force
The ensemble's current conductor is Mr. Ong Kok Leong, who is also the residential conductor for a few secondary school choirs.
Helming the NYPVE from the Student Affairs Office is Ms Janette Ang.
